9 important observations about this year's crop of Christmas ads
1. There is something innately creepy about the part in the Dunnes ad where the voiceover says, “Everything could yield him pleasure”
*shudders*

2. Fair play to his daughter for feigning excitement at getting a second hand book for Christmas.
Eat your heart out, Saoirse Ronan.

3. The little girl in the Three ad really missed out by not asking for a polar bear, tbh.
“So what do I get the girl who has everything? A polar bear?”
“Yes, Dad.”
“Shite.”

4. After all, a snow cloud gets pretty dull after a while
Sure, it might be magical for a few minutes, but she’ll have no mass on it by Stephen’s Day.

5. Can Lisa Hannigan just sing all Christmas carols?
Her version of The Christmas Waltz in the An Post ad is sublime.
Related: we can’t hear the words “It’s that time of year…” without getting the whole thing stuck in our head/worrying about whether our cards will arrive to Australia in time.
6. Speaking of the An Post ad — can someone tell us if these two shift?
We shall not rest until there’s a follow-up ad in which these two are happily married.

7. Why does this make us well up every goddamned time?
We’ve seen the ad 800,000 times now, but we still get emotional everytime we read Aoife’s dotey little letter.

8. But that said…
Aoife’s brother *does* cut it awful fine to come home, doesn’t he? Could he not have even made the journey home on Christmas Eve? Or was he just hanging the evening before?
So many questions.
9. It’s 2015 and the “I don’t know, this seems very unorthodox” girl still isn’t getting the credit she deserves
Unfairly overshadowed by her younger sister in the iconic Corn Flakes ad.
But we all know she’s the real hero.
